OWLBEAR RUG

As you gaze upon the floor of the Dread Dragon Inn, your eyes land on a massive rug in the center of the room. Upon closer inspection, you realize that this is not just a simple decoration, but a trophy of a powerful and skilled hunter. The rug is made from the fur of an owlbear, a fearsome creature known for its sharp claws, powerful beak, and keen senses.

You can sense a primal energy radiating from the rug, almost as if it were still alive. Still, you feel drawn to its beauty and power. The owlbear’s head remains attached to the rug, its beak closed, hiding what you know to be sharp teeth and an insatiable gullet. Though faint, you can detect a spell of some sort surrounding the head.

INVESTIGATE THE HEAD

You gently lift the head of the owlbear rug, trying to get a better sense of what sort of magic it contains. As the head slowly rises in your hands, you notice the presence of magic stays grounded, and looking down you see why. 

The head of the rug has not been enchanted like you thought, but the floor beneath it has. In place of a floorboard sits a strange stone slab. Six runes run along the stone, and as you peer closer they begin to glow.
