TAVERN TABLE

The large wooden table seems to yearn for a weary traveler to rest their woes upon its sturdy surface, yet considering the circumstances, you find it unsurprising that no one here is willing to let their guard down at the moment. The table is made of solid oak and is worn and scarred, with intricate carvings etched into its surface. The carvings depict scenes of dragons and knights engaged in fierce battles, each detail expertly rendered. On the surface of the table is a small notebook.

The notebook is worn and made of leather. It smells faintly of the sea.

Auberon believes that there is a petty thief after one of his magical artifacts. I, however, believe that this thief is also planning to murder him. As I do not wish to bear witness to the death of my dear friend, I have devised a plan to keep everyone busy, and Auberon safe, while I find out who this murderer might be.

Suspect List

Charity – Infernal Sorceress and former love interest of Auberon. Was this revenge for a broken heart, or did she just want another pretty ornament to accessorize with, Auberon’s death being an added delight?

Finnian Highhill – former halfling thief and present-day curator of magical artifacts. Was he envious of Auberon’s collection? Did Auberon have something that Finnian would kill for, to add to his own?

Federic the “Valiant” – the Human knight with a penchant for embellishment. He made a fortune with his fictitious tales, and Auberon knew the truth. Did he murder him to keep him silent? Was there some artifact here that might contradict his claims?

Anrin Brawnbraid – Dwarven barkeep set to inherit the Dread Dragon Inn. Could a dwarf’s greed propel her to steal, and even worse, murder?

Ianstaer Silverdream – the young half-Elf wizard with dreams of grandeur. Was he spurned by Auberon’s reluctance to give him a recommendation? Did he think a magical item could solve his problems?

Korellion Nyevaral – the Elven bard who used to play at the inn. Did he feel cheated by Auberon? Did he want to recoup his losses by stealing a prized artifact, murdering his former employer out of rage?

The adventuring strangers who arrived later in the evening – they claim to know Auberon, but can I really trust them?
Cleared, I believe them to be innocent.

Zyn – a Dark Elf assassin

Thogg
– the half-Orc barbarian, Auberon killed his brother in battle, and they were once great enemies. Could he really have buried the hatchet so easily? Perhaps he wanted to take something of Auberon’s, just as Auberon had taken his brother’s life.

I’ve managed to discover the following traits of the murderer which may help:

-not from here     -left handed
-can do magic     -some colorblindness
-knows a rare language

This notebook must have belonged to Tua’la, may she rest in peace.
