The wooden bookcase stands taller than anyone in the room, reaching almost to the ceiling. It’s a surprisingly varied collection, and you have to fight not to get too distracted perusing. Priorities!
Burying their nose into a spellbook is a fellow student from House Erudia, Lyra Gray.
A couple of books in particular catch your eye:
A locked journal of weathered leather. Its cover is etched with mysterious shapes and patterns. The journal is sealed with an ornate, complicated lock. You study it thoroughly, but discover nothing about the nature of the journal or if it might be trapped with a spell. You’ll need to find the key to open it. Once found, you can input it here:
You slide up to Lyra’s side, trying to read whatever book it is she’s flipping through. She sighs a bit, but holds the book a little closer. She doesn’t slow down her apparent speed reading of the pages.
“Okay, so, I’m researching something suspicious from earlier.”
She continues to furiously flip through the pages of the book, which looks like a standard, core-class textbook for magic.
“Aha! Here it is!”
‘While modern day floos are able to accommodate multiple commuters at once, older and outdated versions will reject travelers if the floo is currently in use.’
She stares at you with hopeful eyes, but furrows her brow in response to your silence.
“Don’t you know what this means?! Corbin and I were trying to get here earlier using the floo network, but someone was already using it! I can’t imagine it was Oliver, so it must have been the culprit. If it weren’t for the outdated fixtures in this place, we could have been here to help! Honestly, this academy is in dire need of an upgrade. In fact, I’m considering transferring to Havenshorn next year. At least they have the funding to provide modern-day magical amenities. You just transferred here, right? Was your last academy as antiquated as this one?”
