PAINTING
Before you is hung the portrait of Seraphina Moonshadow, a renowned Bellator witch of the past. A few feet away and separate from the portrait is a small plaque, and nearby stands Corbin Fitzroy, the young wizard from House Medela.
You take a closer look at the painting. A master of the dark arts, Seraphina was misunderstood in her time, and only posthumously honored for her role in defeating the dark witch, Lysandra Bloodthorne. A former student of House Bellator, the portrait depicts her standing tall and regal, her long, silver hair flowing gracefully, and her dark eyes twinkling with hidden knowledge.
Suddenly, the painting’s eyes dart towards you, and the corners of Seraphina’s mouth slowly start to curl upwards into a somewhat sinister smile.
“Back again, student of Bellator? I see the situation here may be more dire than I originally thought.”
Though her voice exudes an admirable level of confidence, you can’t help but detect a shrivel of fear in her manner of speech.
“A word of advice, child. There are secrets in this academy, secrets that most students never learn of. If you listen closely, you can glean valuable information from seemingly invaluable sources, like that odious painting of Bartholomew Corkhoof. I heard him whispering about those silly “Wizards Cards” that students these days are so fond of collecting. Now, what could he have been on about?”
“Well now, aren’t you the curious one? I’m afraid I’m all out of secrets. Run along.”
“How dare you! I suppose I should expect nothing less from a fellow Bellator. Persistence in the pursuit of what you want is paramount. Very well, I shall let you in on a special little secret of mine, or better yet, let me show you.”
With that, the painting swings open on unseen hinges, revealing a safe built into the wall behind it.
Separate from the painting is a plaque containing an incredible quote from Tiberius Warhorn, the founder of House Bellator:
“With stinger unbowed, second to none in strength.”
-Tiberius Warhorn
Truly inspirational! The power of Tiberius’ words course through your veins, and you feel honored to be a part of House Bellator.
You grab Corbin by his cloak and push him up against the wall!
“I didn’t do it, I swear! You’ve got the wrong idea!”
The panic in his voice is evident, and you let him go.
“It couldn’t have been me! First of all, I’m Oliver’s best friend. No one cares more about Oliver than I do! Second, do you think I could perform a petrification spell on Headmaster Levinwood!? You’re out of your mind! I can’t believe anyone could pull that off!
The fact is, I was talking with Lyra Gray after the sorting ceremony. We were both trying to get here to the common room, and she was showing me how to use floo powder to get here quickly so I could hang out with Oliver. For some reason, the powder stuff wasn’t working. I got a bad feeling and took off towards the common room as fast as I could! I can’t remember who all I saw, but I know the groundskeeper, Mossbrook, was the last person I saw in the hall before I opened the door and found Oliver’s near-lifeless body!”
