STARFALL CARDS

A glint of gold catches your eye, and your gaze falls on a well-worn deck of Starfall Cards. Decks of fortune-telling cards like these are believed by some to be able to predict the future, while others believe them to be meaningless party tricks, while still others see them as entertainment. This one here has seen a lot of use, the golden edges of the deck going soft with wear. You reach for the deck, but hesitate with a glance around the room. Will your companions see this as a silly superstition? Would they take to heart whatever card you turn over? Do you even take this seriously?

In your hand is the Hippodrome card. The full coliseum, lit by the setting sun, is heartening, at first. The longer you look at it though, you can’t help but to note the wasteland surrounding the coliseum, the gathering storm-clouds, the way the coliseum seems ready to swallow its occupants whole. All comfort has bled from the card in your hand, instead it’s a reminder of the nearness of death here in the Dread Dragon Inn. You drop the card back atop the deck. It takes all your strength not to wipe the feeling of the card off of your hand.
