LOST & FOUND CHEST

You turn your attention towards the large wooden “LOST + FOUND” chest. You imagine quite a few items must get unintentionally abandoned in a place such as the Dread Dragon Inn, especially when Dragonfire Mead is on the tap.

Inside, you notice an array of items:

You examine the helmet. It’s a well-crafted piece of armor made of a shiny metal, possibly steel or silver, and has intricate engravings on its surface. You can see faint traces of magic emanating from the helmet, indicating that it may have been enchanted to provide additional protection to the wearer. Why it’s been abandoned here is anyone’s guess.

The necklace catches your eye with its intricate design and shimmering gems. The silver chain is delicate yet sturdy, adorned with small, diamond-shaped amethyst stones that seem to glow with an otherworldly energy. The centerpiece of the necklace is a large, teardrop-shaped amethyst gem, encased in a silver filigree setting that appears to have been crafted by the finest of jewelers. The necklace is clearly magical, and given enough time you might be able to discern what type of magic it’s been enchanted with.

The cloak is made of thick wool and dyed a deep shade of forest green. It looks large enough to wrap around yourself three times over – as if made for someone much larger than you, perhaps a half-giant or a similarly sized creature. The edges of the cloak are frayed, and sections of the cloth are tattered and full of holes. You can’t detect any magical properties, which makes you wonder why such a thing would be kept instead of tossed in the garbage.

You retrieve a worn and battered waterskin from the chest. Despite its rugged appearance, the waterskin still looks functional, and you can tell it has seen plenty of use. The cap is sticky and gross, but you manage to unscrew it and peer inside. The floating bits of mold are all it takes to send your stomach reeling. You quickly screw the cap back on and drop the waterskin.

You spot a rolled-up map lying amidst the clutter of the chest. As you unroll it, the crinkling sound of the parchment echoes in the room. The map is well-worn, with faded ink and creases from being folded over and over. Displayed are various landmarks and routes in the surrounding region. The map is full of notes and scribbles, likely made by the original owner, indicating various points of interest or warnings.

You pick up a small and tarnished ring. You are instantly struck by the magical energies radiating throughout the accessory, and as you inspect it the ring seems to reshape itself into the perfect size for your finger. Could this be the legendary Ring of Unbound Knowledge? It’s said that the ring would grant the wearer a photographic memory with the ability to recall any information ever learned in perfect detail! Then again… it could be cursed. Perhaps once all this is over, you’ll return to further inspect this item.
