You slowly approach the body of your old friend, Auberon Greatstag. He was a great champion, a true hero, and you fondly remember the quest you joined him on back when you were just a fledgling wizard. It’s hard to believe he’s dead, and were his body not right here in front of you it would be far-fetched to think that he’d met his demise at the hands of some no-good looter. On the floor next to the body lies an empty goblet.
You study the body for any clue as to what could have happened. His eyes are shut, and his expression is calm. There are no signs of a physical attack. Was he poisoned? Or perhaps this was some cowardly yet powerful dark magic? You wish you’d known of the seriousness of this threat, so that you might have prepared some protection spells and saved your friend’s life tonight.
The goblet is a finely crafted piece of drinkware, made of polished silver and adorned with intricate designs that gleam in the light of the hearth. It is large enough to hold a generous portion of ale or wine, but you dare not handle it for fear that it may be cursed. The ways in which someone might be killed in this world are numerous, and wisdom is your greatest ally. It looks empty anyway, save for a few dribbles of Dragonfire Mead collected inside.
